Adopting a cat from shelter

Every year the shelters are full of cats that noone has wanted. They are there waiting for someone to come and pick them up and give them love and pats and a place to stay. Unfortunately, all of them cannot find a forever home and some are just waiting for their ticket to the rainbowbridge.

There are many kinds of cats waiting. All different colors, ages and personalities... so I can assure you, there is a cat for everone. Just waiting for you to come by and take him home with you.

All are not perfect cats. Some have injuries, or are elder. These cats are the least "wanted" for new homes. Most of the people prefer a cute kitten to take home with them, and often kittens are the first ones to be taken from shelter to their new homes.
Why not consider taking an elder cat and giving him/her a change to live rest of the life with you. Elder cats are usually calmer, and they have gone through a lot and deserve a nice place to live their remining years.
Or a cat with a disability like lost eye ? It will not make the cat any less, or less lovable. He might not have the looks of a kitten, but he has the same heart and love to give.

I am sitting here waiting
And hoping.

Weeks ago I lived on a street
And had nothing to even eat.
I slept under a car seat.

Now I am in place called shelter,
At least I do not have to suffer the weather.
It’s been so cold outside during winter nights
And I had so many frost bites.

People come and go all time
Against the doors of the cage I climb.
“Hey, I am here, look at me, I am cute”
But I feel like I am mute.

As no one stops by my cage and say
“Lets take him home, and be on our way,
He needs love as he is so brave”
I am old, and cannot much play,
My eyes are almost blind and I see only gray.
But in my chest beats heart full of love,
Please take me home and never leave me alone.

I am not a young kitten anymore,
I am getting old and getting sore.
Cant I go home with you tonight
So everything would be alright.
I promise I’ll purr the same as kittens do
And love you too.

Across rainbow bridge I walk tomorrow
There is no more time for me to borrow.
Please do not leave me behind
Even I am almost blind.

Give me gift of life dear human friend
Please do not let this be my end.
Time is running out and tomorrow is near,
Why my story cannot you hear.
Say my name
And one we become.

Even if you cannot be as a permanent forever home for a cat, maybe you can help out by being a temporary home before the cat finds its forever home. This way your furry friend does not have to wait in the shelter, and in many occasions this gives the animal time to recover from the hard life it has had before.
